As all of you know, I personally am a rather big comic book fan. As I don't feel that these necessarily fall under purely "books", as they are an artform as well, I suppose this would fit here best.
Are you a Marvel or a DC? [Or maybe a Darkhorse, or other publisher!] Favorite hero/villain? Why? Favorite story arcs? I personally, as all know, am a DC. I feel that DC is a little deeper than Marvel tends to want to go. Obviously my mainstay is the Batman series and most titles that are included into it. The Gotham City Sirens are obviously my favorite characters [Harley, Ivy, and Catwoman for those who don't know]. Secondary character that I loooove is Green Arrow. Too bad the poor guy has been put through hell and back with shitty writers. But overall, Ollie Queen, I lurve you.
Also, if anyone else is reading, what do you think of Blackest Night/Brightest Day?

DC for so long had really empty one dimensional Properties. and marvel was the more mature of the two publishers. but once Frank Miller tried his hand at batman... everything started changing. add to that the AMAZING cartoon series by bruce Timm and Paul Dini, Its really earned itself some respect.
that being said, I really don't see a lot of great DC imprints beyond the Batman stuff. there's just a lot of generic crap there.
and why DC feels it needs the VERTIGO imprint for its smarter books is beyond me. because there are TONS of VERTIGO books I adore. why not just Print them. and fuck all who hate that it borders on Indie.
I rarely read marvel. even less than i read DC. its just... not that creative. its the same stories retold for the.... 9th...10th time? meh.
IMAGE comics really holds a special place in my heart.
And as for actual Properties. I tend to love the ones that can be cartoony but still touch you. Bone, Liberty Meadows and of Course Calvin and Hobbes. other than that... I approach a book in terms of whether or not I wish I'd made it. I used to be an illustrator. I got into comics because I found a market to sell my art. not because it was something I particularly needed.

See, I've not been exposed much to Image comics. Any recommended reading?
I agree that using the Vertigo imprint is kinda stupid. They originally used to to publish darker and more mature comics...yet right now in Green Arrow, Ollie is a murderer and in jail, Roy is a drug addict who lost his kid, his city, and his arm, and Mia is HIV positive. So.
There's some really good ones behind DC, the problem is most of the other properties suffer from chronic shitty writer syndrome. Green Arrow is a good example. His runs tend to be very hit or miss. Smith's and Diggle's runs were really great, while Winick raped the entire run for his first half of writing Ollie's stories. He eventually got better, but the series never truly recovered. THEN they got hit with Cry for Justice and everything went grimdark.
As for the same stories, ehh not entirely. Lately, imo, DC has been doing pretty well. Blackest Night and the now occurring Brightest Day are rather fun, and Return of Bruce Wayne is looking promising.

Elephantmen, Girls, Liberty Meadows, the walking dead and Invincible are all worth your time.
And my same stories comment is directed at marvel, I don't pay enough attention to most mainstream DC stuff to really comment on that.
and I fucking hate superman. you could not pay me enough to write/illustrate that property. I hate it that much.
I mean, okay. I hate Spiderman. but I'd do it for a paycheck.
but superman? I'D RATHER STARVE.

Supes is kinda boring imo. But he's the foil for Batman, when they're together it's interesting. And with Spidey's current issues he got the ASSHOLE OF THE YEAR award.
Are those titles multi arc-ed? If so, which are the best issues to get into them with?

Liberty meadows is long since done, just buy it in TPB, all the others are ongoing (as far as i know.) but are already in Trades.
start with the first books. these Stories are written like Literature. not Soap Opera's. you cant hop in on a later issue and hope to catch up!
that being said, Pride Of Baghdad is a oneshot, I'm pretty sure its Vertigo and it is worth buying!

CBR files. People scan the comics as they come out weekly and send them around as .CBR files. Though you can get them in jpeg as well. It's a great way to read stuff that you're not able to find/buy at that moment.
But it so doesn't beat the feeling of that TPB or single issue in your hands.

Just find the name of said issue, series, or TPB and add "torrent" on the end of it, then enter in google. Viola.

While I do like both Marvel and DC, I have to say I'm a marvel at heart. I grew upon Spidey and he holds a special place in my heart.
As of now, my favorite character is Deadpool, hands down. The irreverence is what keeps me reading.
As for Superman, I used to hate him, because of his power, and how godlike he was. But looking at him now, I kind of like him, especially when he was surrounded by dark brooding anti-heroes that all were exactly alike.
